Susan K Burgess captures the spirit of the landscape in atmospheric paintings that communicate mystery, power, and serenity.

After earning a BA in studio art, she began painting outdoors (‘en plein air’) in her native coastal New England, while teaching art in the elementary schools. Fifty years later, she has painted along the New England and California coasts, New Mexico, the Caribbean, Italy, Portugal and Mexico, combining her love of nature with a delight in world travel.

Along the way, she continued taking courses in art and earned a Masters Equivalence in Art Education as well as Certificates in Management and Graphic design. These helped her design and produce an art enrichment program for senior citizens and watercolor workshops for MBA students, initiate and manage a community art gallery, and manage sales departments of an art museum in Salem, while painting ‘en plein air’ on a parallel career path.

She is an award-winning juried Artist Member of Cambridge Art Association and Marblehead Arts Association, Artist member of Swampscott Art Association and Lynn Arts, and Associate Member of North Shore Arts Association, with 15 solo exhibits to her credit between 1995 and 2018 at Boston and North Shore art associations, galleries, and venues. She currently lives in Swampscott, Massachusetts.
