The Swampscott Arts Association(SAA) began in the 1940's when a group of well known professional artists came together at the Swampscott Public Library to meet and create exhibits.

By 1969 the organization grew to over 60 members. Space was needed for meetings and shows and the Swampscott Public Library opened their doors to us. Paintings were donated and sold to fund the costs. Community outreach was offered through programs to award a scholarship to a Swampscott High School student each year.

Membership is non-juried and open to all local artists and photographers, to encourage exhibition opportunities for their work Currently, SAA has about 70 members. Each year SAA offers non-juried shows for artists and photographers as well as workshops and demonstrations. Receptions precede each exhibit and are open to the public. The SAA also holds a juried show during the year. Selected judges are acclaimed artists or photographers - prizes and ribbons are awarded at the Opening
